Prof.
Kuen-chen FU (a.k.a. Lawrence K.C. Fu) :
Xiamen University Law School
Prof. Fu was born in Taiwan in 1951. He got his Bachelor
of Law degree and his Master of Law degree in National
Taiwan University. In 1983 and 1986, he obtained his
LL.M and S.J.D. degrees respectively from University of
Virginia Law School. He has been a visiting scholar of
University of Washington School of Law and of the Law
School of Hong Kong City University.
Prof. Fu was a professor of law at National Taiwan
University before he became an active legislator in
Taiwan. In 2002, he moved to Xiamen and continued
teaching International Law of the Sea and Anglo-American
Law of Contracts at the Xiamen University Law School.
There he has helped establish the Xiamen University
Center for Oceans Policy and Law (XMU-COPL), and has
served as the director of the Center. At the same time,
he continued his service as a member of the board of
directors of the (Taiwan) Overseas Fishery Development
Council (OFDC) and Chairman of its Legal Affairs
Committee. Dr. Fu is also one of the advisors of the
Legislative Yuan of Taiwan.
Prof. Fu is the chief editor of the China Oceans Law
Review (COLR), and a guest chair professor of the
Chinese Academy of Social Science (CASS) International
Law Center, and of the Shanghai Fisheries University. He
is also an arbitrator of Taiwan, Xiamen, Wuhan, Russia
Far East Region, China Maritime Arbitration Commission (CMAC)
and China International Economic and Trade Arbitration
Commission (CIETAC).
Prof. Fu has authored or co-authored more than 22 books
and more than 60 articles published in China, Chinese
Taiwan, Japan, North America or Europe. He has also
served as an observer for the International Law
Association (ILA) in the United Nations Legislative
Conference for the 1995 Fish Stocks Agreement, and has
served as legal advisor for the authorities in Chinese
Taiwan and the Marshall Islands.
